I finally got a new mic to replace the one that was lost along with my Hero3+ during the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! a few weeks ago. Reviews are better for this one, but I have yet to test it. I had "Mr. Fix-It" (Mike G) cut a nice hole in the case in order to plug the USB in, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Then I used a very small zip-tie to fasten the mic to the back of the GoPro case.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
It's a Sony ECM-DS70P, retails for about $45. Unlike my previous mic though, this one didn't have a fuzzy wind deflector, so I had to source that myself. In doing so I couldn't help but channel my inner Tintin fan, the wind deflector looks JUST like one of the Thompson brothers' staches:
Wind deflector pre-application:
And on the mic:
Hopefully I can get out in something loud today to test this piece out, I'll be sure to post as soon as I do.

Very nice article! I was thinking about doing the same on my gopro.

Go find that V10 S8 and give us another recording :3

for $50, you can massively improve your audio recording. But head on, into the wind is still going to suck. I usually use two GoPros; one mounted next to the exhaust with the mic, and another to get forward shots.

Exactly what I planned to do this summer. Because yeah the wind is disturbing. I found a nice place to put my gopro this summer and it works, I had the exhaust sounds and no wind at all.

Very nice. Plus, you have a Miata, so you're obviously having more fun than everyone else :)

Thanks! Of course I do ;) But I want different sound input so i'm tempted to try what you did!

I've found that the GoPro audio is alright if you've got straight-pipes blaring, but anything below it's a bit lacklustre.
This new setup looks good, and the windsock will help a lot.

Yeah anything short of ear-splittingly loud exhausts won't come out very well without a mic.

Yup that's the ticket. Now get a triple suction mount for the forward view camera and you'll be set! Triple suction provides a far more stable shot, much less vibration than the single suctions from GoPro.

Triple suction cup ? Could you provide me a link please, I can't find any..
**Edit, i found some.

Hey,
Late to the GoPro game. Where did you pick up that sweet windsock?
Thanks

I think it was like $4 on Ebay.
